Materials Recovery: Sorting, Baling and Packaging

MRF’s facilitate sorting, compressing, baling and packaging operations to ensure the optimum method of transport of appropriate materials for recycling and we operate a number of Materials Recovery Facilities (MRF’s) that sort non-hazardous mixed wastes collected from municipal, commercial and industrial customers, extracting the recyclable elements with only the minimum going to landfill.

We operate two waste management facilities, the first of which is located in Clonmellon Industrial Estate, approximately ten kilometres from Kells, and is the flagship of Allied Waste Managements activities. This facility operates as a non-hazardous waste recovery facility for the separation of waste materials collected for recycling, is permitted by Westmeath County Council, and is licensed to accept up to 15,000 tonnes per annum.

The second facility is located in Oldcastle in County Meath and is a land reclamation facility used for the recovery of soil and stones. This facility is permitted by Meath County Council

Composting
Composting is a natural form of recycling, which continually occurs in nature. Composting Organic waste streams reduces the amount of Municipal Solid Waste Requiring disposal, while at the same time providing a nutrient rich soil amendment.

Allied Waste is currently piloting the collection of organic waste with Westmeath County Council with all waste collected being diverted to an In-Vessel Composting System operated by Johnstown Recycling near Mullingar. Should the operation prove successful the scheme will be rolled out to all the councils customers and Allied Waste Management is currently examining the viability of introducing a similar service to its commercial customers.

Allied Waste Management has expertise in well-controlled chains for recycling, including:
· Paper
· Cardboard
· Metal
